  1. Thank you for trying PowerStrip.
  2. We think it is the most efficient
  3. and most attractive user-interface
  4. for Windows.  It is certainly the
  5. interface that uses up the least
  6. real estate on your screen!
  7.  
  8. INSTALLING POWERSTRIP
  9.  
  10. To try PowerStrip, copy
  11. POWER.EXE and POWER.INI to your
  12. Windows directory.  Then
  13. copy THREED.DLL to your
  14. Windows/System directory.
  15.  
  16. THREED.DLL is a library
  17. used by PowerStrip.  By downloading
  18. POWRLITE.ZIP, you indicated that
  19. you already had VBRUN200.DLL
  20. in your Windows/System
  21. directory. Like all programs written
  22. in Visual Basic 2.0, PowerStrip
  23. requires that VBRUN200.DLL be in
  24. your Windows/System directory.
  25. If you don't have VBRUN200.DLL,
  26. you can get it from the Windows
  27. section of most any BBS, CSERVE,
  28. AOL, or EXEC.
  29.  
  30. Now just add POWER.EXE to your
  31. Program Manager or whatever
  32. Shell you use. 
  33.  
  34. MAKING POWERSTRIP YOUR SHELL
  35.  
  36. PowerStrip itself is intended to be
  37. used as your Windows "Shell" --
  38. the launchpad for all your
  39. Windows applications.  You can try
  40. PowerStrip out first, by just adding
  41. it to your Program Manager or
  42. Norton/Windows or whatever shell you use.
  43. But, if you like the way PowerStrip works,
  44. try it as your main Shell (you can still
  45. add Program Manager to PowerStrip
  46. easily and thus have access to all
  47. your familiar icons and groups).
  48.  
  49. To make PowerStrip your main shell,
  50. open Notepad and load the SYSTEM.INI
  51. file from your Windows directory.
  52. Find the line that says:
  53.  
  54. Shell=Progman.exe
  55.  
  56. and change it to say:
  57.  
  58. Shell=Power.exe
  59.  
  60. then save the SYSTEM.INI file back
  61. to disk.  Now when you restart Windows,
  62. Power will be your Shell.  (Your
  63. Shell= might specify Norton or some other
  64. shell--just change it to read
  65. Shell=Power.exe.)  If you decide to
  66. go back to your original shell, just
  67. reverse the process and change Shell=
  68. to your other shell.
  69.  
  70. SPECIAL FEATURES
  71.  
  72. PowerStrip is designed to take up as little
  73. space on your screen as possible--no visible
  74. menus, no scroll bars, no borders--just
  75. a strip of icons, plus three special icons
  76. at the right side.  The red pyramid icon
  77. displays the PowerStrip Editor.  That's
  78. where you can rearrange your icons,
  79. add or delete applications, add commandlines,
  80. get Help, change the backcolor, specify
  81. whether a single- or double-click launches
  82. a program, specify whether PowerStrip
  83. minimizes itself when you launch a program,
  84. etc.  You can add as many as 20 icons
  85. to PowerStrip.

  87. Next to the red pyramid is a darkened
  88. window icon.  Double-click on this and
  89. Windows shuts down and you're in DOS.
  90. Finally, there is a blue pyramid.  Click
  91. on it and PowerStrip reduces itself to a
  92. single icon in the lower right corner of
  93. the screen.  Click again and PowerStrip
  94. reappears.

  96. If you like PowerStrip, please register
  97. it.  Every few times you use it, a reminder
  98. message will appear.  Registering eliminates
  99. these reminders, and also puts you on
  100. our mailing list for PowerStrip 2.0.
